GOREBRIDGE, CARE HOME

This new development is a 60 bed private care home for the elderly and those with dementia impairment, in Gorebridge, Midlothian.

The £5.5million project was commissioned by the Commercial Services Department of Midlothian Council. The project consists of 60 bedrooms set in five wings of twelve with a main support wing.

The build is traditional timber frame construction, incorporating various environmental features, such as sun pipes and rainwater harvesting. The design is unique in that every bedroom has its own front door to allow access from the outside.

Inside, the separate wings are different colours, with each flat having its own door plate, coloured panel and memory box to aid the residents.

The support wing boasts sitting areas, dining areas and basic amenities for everyday use. Outside, special consideration has been given to the landscape with 5 different gardens.

Each garden has its own features to aid the residents with memory impairment whilst providing a place for relaxation. The project started on site in January 2007 and was completed in May 2008.
