THE BRIT OVAL, LONDON
Client : Surrey County Cricket Club
Capacity : 14,500
Opened : June 2005
The Vauxhall End Development locates some 14,500 spectators below a sweeping aerofoil roof, providing a dramatic setting and focus for the cricket below, with a plan shape based on the perimeter wall at the Vauxhall End and the unique geometry of the sport.
The development is multi levelled with spectators accommodated on 4 seating tiers supported by three levels of hospitality lounges and an open promenade terrace. The re-development of the Oval Cricket Ground has seen the capacity of the ground raised from 19000 to 23000.
The stadium was primarily re-configured to assure its ongoing status as a Test Match venue under the requirements of the governing body, The English Cricket Board.
The development also had to satisfy the detailed requirements of its landlord, the Duchy of Cornwall and Sport England through a Lottery Funding Agreement.
The pitch has been re-configured to accommodate not only Test Cricket but other sports such as Australian Rules football. |
